Cross-fades are accomplished by simultaneously increasing and decreasing the gain of two signals using complimentary VCAs. If only one signal input is used then it works more like a conventional VCA and fades between signal and silence.

The Dual Xfade can be optimized for audio or CV cross- fading. When built for audio the cross-fade point is only 3dB below unity. This reduces the perceived loss in level that would occur if both inputs are at half volume. If built for CV cross-fading the response is linear and cross over point is 6dB down. The benefit is an equal mix at center which is better for CVs but not for audio. It is also possible to build one side for audio and the other for CVs. Please mention intended use when ordering so we can configure to suit.
